HOW to Turn a Bad Day Into a Good One – Learn How HERE!

Good can come from bad. We all have bad days, it can be due to the moon, the weather changing, hormonal reasons, or we simply got up on the wrong side of the bed. However counterintuitive it might seem, we actually need these dark episodes in between good phases, because otherwise we would no longer appreciate the good times, at some point. So bad days have a kind of lesson to teach us, in our lives. Nevertheless, we don't have to tolerate them, keep our heads down and just wait out the low point. We are the architect of our own happiness. This also applies to the organization of our everyday life and, to a certain extent, to our mood. So before we just accept a bad day in a cloud of negativity, let's take a look at five simple tricks for turning a bad day into a good one, or at least a better one.

1. Allow your feelings space

Negative moods and feelings such as anger, sadness, rage and world-weariness have one thing in common: they want to be heard, that is, felt and consciously perceived. The more we ignore them or try to fight them, the more powerful they become. Figuratively speaking, they use the subconscious to gather their troops and, at the next best opportunity, usually when we are not expecting it at all, mercilessly take us by force. So on bad days, it's definitely a good idea to get to the bottom of what's causing your predicament emotionally. Which outlet you use is up to you. You can put your feelings into words and write them down on paper, meditate, listen to music, take a long walk, or seek advice from a friend. The more channels you can use to vent your anger, frustration and sadness, the better. But please don't confuse this exercise with taking out your bad mood on other people. No one deserves that, and there’s no specific person to blame, anyway, but rather a conglomeration of circumstances.

2. Shadow work

Parts of our personality that we repeatedly suppress and perhaps even reject become a shadowy existence in our lives. On bad days, they come to the surface and use our weaknesses to their advantage. Our negative feelings, mental attitudes and all the emotional ballast that we quickly push aside in everyday life – it can no longer be ignored in this second. The principle of shadow work is based on the findings of the well-known psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung, who used the term shadow to describe the hidden side of our human psyche. How does this knowledge apply to having a bad day? Devote yourself, if your time allows, to all those negative thoughts and feelings that boil up inside you, cry, be angry, be sad or try to put them into words. Write down everything that is bothering you on a piece of paper. You can then burn it carefully in an ashtray, fireplace, or fire pit and watch all the negativity of that day literally disappear into thin air. If you are more comfortable with actionism, tear the piece of paper into many small pieces and feel knots in the pit of your stomach begin to loosen again with each action. Shadow work can also be learned in coaching sessions and seminars. If you are interested in such techniques, maybe a training on this would be a good idea for you.

3. Try something completely new

There is magic in every beginning. This sentence by Hermann Hesse refers to big and small things that come into our lives. You can make perfect use of this magic on bad days by doing something you have never done before. The effort, the novelty and the subsequent sense of achievement provide you with three positive stimuli that will lift your spirits in an instant. It doesn't matter whether it's your first time setting foot in a museum, donating blood or daring to talk to a stranger. As long as it takes some effort and you've never done it before, it will change your day for the better in no time.

4. Help someone or make a small donation.

Doing good doesn't just help others. The effect of the good deed immediately reflects back on us and our well-being like a flash of light. If no project presents itself at the moment or you would rather not leave the house in your condition, donate a small amount to a charity of your choice. It doesn't matter how much money you can spare. It will make their day at least a little bit better. If you decide to volunteer permanently, it will of course do you and others good. Our society lives from volunteerism, because much is left to be improved after professionals have their way. However, the effect of the good deed sometimes wears off in the long run and can even turn into the opposite, a feeling of dissatisfaction.

5. Look for inspiration

There’s no quick remedy for a bad day. Chocolate would certainly help in theory and in practice, but as we know, it's not an ideal problem-solving strategy in the long run. What always helps, on the other hand, when you feel world-weary is to look for like-minded people, because a sorrow shared is always a sorrow mitigated. If you don't want to bother people with your low mood, consult the endless expanses of the Internet. There are so many inspiring people sharing their experiences and wealth of knowledge with the world on Instagram, YouTube and other sites. If there's a movie that always helps you get back on your feet mentally, feel free to watch it again and again. The Hollywood dream factory does a great job, at least in terms of escapism. If there are famous personalities that you find great and admirable, delve into their biographies and let yourself be inspired by their lives, which probably weren't always easy either. It doesn't matter which tool you choose to get back on the sunny side emotionally and psychologically. As John Lennon so aptly put it; Whatever gets you through the night is fine.

Today’s Conclusion

One bad day or many bad days – without them we would not appreciate the good ones. Even the great Goethe recognized this fact when he once wrote, "Nothing is harder to bear than a series of good days.” Presumably, our mind occasionally needs a break from too many beautiful experiences, our psyche needs a day full of comfortable dreariness, and our emotional life needs a simple time-out. Bad moods can even be quite healing now and then. Afterwards, we recognize the good and beautiful things more readily and feel more gratitude for them. However, if you notice that dark moods haunt you more and more often or that the phases go on for several days, then pay more attention to your soul. Maybe you’re touching on a depressive episode, and you should never let it win. One bad day does not make a bad life. However, many bad days in a row can lead us directly into a full-fledged depression. Be mindful of your soul, it is the pilot in your life. If it's out of balance, you need to do everything in your power to get you back on course. That's it for today.
