5 Things Clever People Never Waste Time With! And You?

Intelligence shows itself in many ways. It usually has little to do with education. Common sense, life experience and a trained eye for the incidents of everyday life often help us much more. Many smart people go completely unnoticed. They don't push themselves to the fore and are usually hardly noticed, while those we notice most loudly are often the exact opposite of clever. What we know about smart people is that they get by with few friends, often like to keep to themselves, and just let the world be the world. They do their own thing in a way, only no one notices. Smart people operate in silence and don't need applause or recognition from third parties. In this article, we'd like to introduce you to 5 more features that set the smart ones apart from those less blessed.

1. Outward appearances are never commented on

Stupid people often out themselves by not being able to keep any of their uninteresting trains of thought to themselves. Even the poet Heinrich Heine once noted: "The clever person notices everything, the stupid person makes a remark about everything". Particularly exposed to this fact is the external appearance of people. Smart people naturally register everything about their surroundings, but would never comment on it. The intellectual minimalists, by contrast, are quite different. They do not stop at mentioning physical infirmities, a person's weight, their clothing style, or any other visual conspicuousness that catches their critical eye. In real time, their observations are communicated to everyone present, whether they want to hear them or not. Such behavior is not only immature and embarrassing. It only shows that the smartest members of the human species are not necessarily present. No detail escapes the intelligent among us, only they don't make a public issue of their observations. They know that most people suffer from their obvious impairments anyway. And those who cultivate a particularly individual or extravagant style don't care about the opinions of others anyway.

2. Giving up is not in their vocabulary

What distinguishes the successful from the less successful is essentially one point: They never give up. Many biographies of prominent contemporaries, inventors or extraordinary people reveal this common thread. Hardly any career can look back on a straight path entirely without setbacks. Most great inventions have even been rejected several times, and a great many of the brilliant achievements we rejoice over every day today would have disappeared into dusty drawers if their creators had been easily discouraged. Smart people therefore always strive not to lose sight of their goals. They believe in themselves and their ideas. Those who do not want to go with them are, of course, free to leave. It's not for nothing that the smart ones are often lone wolves, preferring to live life for themselves rather than slipping from one human disappointment to the next. Added bonus on the side: Those who know their strengths and are convinced of themselves don't need outside confirmation. What the stupid ones often need as badly as the air they breathe are compliments, praise and comments from third parties. The smart ones don't even count on it, because the only motivation that drives them comes from within themselves.

3. They always act responsibly

One of the most important characteristics that distinguishes smart people from the less smart ones is the ability to learn from mistakes. Even the smart ones have the odd lapse in their lives. They, too, make bad decisions, trust the wrong people or have to admit to themselves that his way was not the right one for them. However, each of these mistakes only happens to them exactly once. They have then learned their lesson and are even wiser than before. The humble in spirit, on the other hand, are constantly hoping for a different result under the same conditions, just as in the famous quote by Albert Einstein, by always making the same mistakes. The next big difference is: Even smart people sometimes go overboard. But again, the dose makes the poison. They would never neglect their duties or put important areas of their lives at risk for the sake of a party or a social evening. Not only do they act responsibly, but they are always mindful of the consequences of their actions.

4. Vanity and pride don't get in their way.

Intelligent contemporaries are often confronted with the accusation that they listen too little to their heart and too much to their mind. This may be true, but it actually only benefits them. Those who allow themselves to be guided too strongly by their feelings fall victim not only to the positives, but above all to the negatives. A highly qualified person with enormous potential will always nonetheless fail if heโ€™s driven by ego and pride. But life, as we all know, is not a dog and pony show. Anyone who wants to hold their own here must become resistant to criticism, hostility, envy and any form of personal insult. Neuroses are not infrequently the nails in the coffin of a promising career, because things are tougher at the top. Those who let their ego take over and allow themselves to be directed by their pride end up bitter and disappointed by life somewhere on the sidelines. Perseverance and endurance often mean having to do door-to-doors and shake hands, endure boring business dinners and laugh at third-rate jokes in order to achieve goals. Success is like love: many frogs have to be kissed before the prince finally appears. Smart people know these unwritten laws and stick to them. Pride and vanity have no place in this equation. They are variables that would only make the course of success unnecessarily unpredictable.

5. The past is not important.

Looking forward is what smart contemporaries always keep in mind. This keeps them on track and focused on their goals. If you constantly mourn the golden past and weep for missed opportunities, you will never move forward. Life is happening now. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not an option. Persisting in the nostalgia of times long past is another indication of people who have not understood life. Such shackles of a memory, which on top of that usually clouds us, keep us forcibly on the ground instead of letting us take off. We then almost drown in self-pity and look for the blame for our misfortune or failure somewhere at a point in our life that is irretrievably past and long since water under the bridge.

Todayโ€™s Conclusion: Stupid is as stupid does.

This quote was made famous by the antihero Forrest Gump, but of course it could also easily come from anyone who has a little experience of life. In addition, one could of course add that the stupid ones also quite often out themselves by going loudly to the public with their half-knowledge and their abstruse theories. If you have doubts, it is best to follow the guiding principle of social intelligence. Being smart sometimes just means knowing when it's better to shut up. The great Albert Einstein found even clearer words for this: "He who is silent does not always agree. He just sometimes doesn't feel like arguing with idiots." That's it for today.
